Graphic Designing Skills
For an assignment deliverable for the module, 'Family and Community Partnership', I was tasked with creating resources that would be displayed on the bulletin board for a mock-up family resource corner. I used the app, Canva, to design a newsletter, posters of centre events and external programmes. As graphic design is a form of visual communication, I learnt how to appropriately use pictures, colours and fonts to create effective posters that convey the message, while also making it aesthetically pleasing. Moreover, having this skill is valuable in this industry because it not only allows me to present information in an clear and concise manner (e.g. portfolios, newsletters, posters) but also to use it as a visual aid in the classroom to support children's learning.
Above is the newsletters and posters I designed for the assignment. Click on the photo for an enlarged version.
Video Editing and Filming Skills
The skills I gained from my video filming module, 'IT Applications' in Year 1 at Ngee Ann Polytechnic have aided me in filming and editing numerous videos throughout my tertiary journey. For example, as part of my assignment for the module, 'Working with the Exceptional Child', I was required to create a video to show how differentiated instructions would be used with children with Hearing Impairment. I used up-to-date video editing apps like iMovie and Capcut to produce a short role-play video to demonstrate the facilitation of the resources created. In order to ensure clarity, I also added captions to the video.
Acquiring these digital skills and experiences would be useful for me as I can leverage them to develop fun and engaging activities for children. Additionally, videos created could be shared with families so as to extend children's learning and allow parents to be updated with their child's learning progress. |

group mates demonstrated the activity. |
