Family Resource Corner | 2022
For the module 'Family & Community Partnership', I was tasked with a group assignment in designing a bulletin board with community resources that would be placed at our mock family resource corner to help parents gain tips on parenting and supporting their child.
Applying my knowledge of Epstein's model for Parental Involvement, I placed relevant centre posters, brochures and community resources that provide information and support to diverse types of families in Singapore. This assignment honed my collaboration skills as I worked with other group members to prepare the materials and research for resources. Aside from that, I learnt about the challenges they encounter and the support they need. From this assignment, I have a better understanding of how I, as an educator, can collaborate and provide the appropriate support to children with varying backgrounds. |

Two-week Integrated Curriculum Unit Plan | 2021
In Year 2, I had to create a two-week integrated curriculum unit plan for children aged 4-5 years old for the module 'Curriculum Planning & Implementation'. Prior to this, I only had experience planning individual lessons, so this gave me the opportunity to explore and learn more about the curriculum planning process.
It was not an easy process to plan 10 lesson plans, which covered all 6 learning areas. Hence, I delegated tasks to my group members so that the workload is equally distributed and would be completed on time. Also, I stepped up as a leader by facilitating the group discussions and taking into consideration the various perspectives of my members on the topic. Despite choosing a challenging and uncommon topic on 'Pasta', the curriculum unit plan was well-received by our module lecturer. We received feedback that it was fun, relevant and age-appropriate for children. |

Floor Plan for Preschool Centre | 2021
For an 'Effective Environment for Young Children' module assignment, I was tasked to plan and design a floor plan that enrolls children aged 12 to 18 months. Adhering to Crowther's Principles of Effective Learning Environment, I utilized the different areas to promote learning and positive behaviour of children without compromising their safety. I also displayed my organizational skills by using symbols to represent different items and colour-coding the various areas.
This assignment has taught me the importance of making intentional decisions as a preschool educator, both in terms of physical space and in terms of children's learning, as these decisions impacts their growth and development. As a result, I was able to articulate my rationale for designing the floor plan. |

FAQ Fact Sheet about Children with ASD | 2021
For the module 'Working with the Exceptional Child', I needed to create a fact sheet about children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). To ensure that the information used was reliable and accurate, I applied my critical thinking skills when going through various online sources.
Additionally, as I did more research on this disorder, I gained more knowledge on the characteristics, challenges and symptoms identified in children with ASD. This allowed me to utilize my decision-making skills in listing the help and support caregivers can provide to their child with ASD. From this assignment, it has been an insightful and eye-opening experience learning about this disorder. Moreover, it has better prepared me with strategies that I can use as an educator to manage children with ASD in the future. |
