Sequence The Pictures! | 2022
Numeracy Resource
During my 6-month internship, I conducted a lesson on sequencing various routines and activities. As such, I created this resource as a teaching aid to guide children in applying their knowledge using real-life scenarios. To create this resource, I used my innovativeness to tap into the children's prior knowledge of ordinal numbers and extended their learning through the concept of ordering.
While planning the teaching aid, I modified it for dual purposes - small group activity and learning centre activity - thus ensuring flexibility. Through making this teaching aid, I learnt the importance of giving children opportunities to learn from their mistakes as this allows them to take ownership and responsibility of their learning. As such, the templates and individual cards includes velcro for them to remove the cards easily to make changes. Despite its simplicity, I was very proud of this teaching aid as I also learnt how to incorporate both children's learning and interests. |

Match & Make the Numbers | 2021
Numeracy Resource
I created this numeracy resource for one of my deliverables for Practicum 2. Following the theme of animals, I involved the children in a learning corner activity of placing the correct number of wools on the template and then using play dough to create the corresponding number. I chose an age and developmentally appropriate activity that could reinforce the 4-year-olds learning of numbers.
While brainstorming this resource, I made sure to cater to the needs of the children. For example, I involved them in manipulating play dough as concrete materials enhances children's understanding of the topic better. Also, as some children showed difficulty handling objects with dexterity, l decided to incorporate fine motor skills by having them pick up the cotton balls with tongs to strengthen their pincer grasp. With my determination, I was able to produce a fun and engaging activity for the children. This further motivates me to think out of the box when designing activities for different age groups. |

Rhyming Bingo | 2020
Literacy Resource
In my 'Language & Literacy' module that I took in Year 1 at Ngee Ann Polytechnic, I designed this literacy resource to enhance children's learning of rhyme, based on the words from the book 'Llama Llama Misses Mama' by Anna Dewdney. Rhyming Bingo is made for 5-year-olds to match words that share the same ending sound.
This resource embodies the definition of learning through play as it involves children in an interactive and turn-taking activity where they would get to play with their peers. This also allows them to learn from one another when they face difficulties, thus developing their teamwork and collaboration skills at the same time. The process of creating this resource honed my planning and time management skills as I had to prepare the various materials before the deadline. My efforts did not go unnoticed as my module lecturer commented that the resource was well-designed and engaging for children. |

Self-Made Props for Story-Reading | 2020
As part of an assignment for 'Language & Literacy' module, I made animal finger puppets and mini crate boxes to use while story-reading to Nursery 2 children. The self-made props are inspired and based on the book, 'Dear Zoo' by Rod Campbell.
Using my critical thinking skills, I enhanced children's story-reading experience in a meaningful way by creating finger props of the various animals found in the book and the crates that come along with them. Aside from just making a three-dimensional prop, I was meticulous in ensuring that the props would aid children in providing a visual representation of the story. Furthermore, I demonstrated my ability to be resourceful by using of recyclable materials like tissue boxes and leftover coloured paper from previous projects. Overall, this experience taught me how to make story-reading interactive for children while allowing them to create predictions as to what will happen next. |
